APA Citation Style: Books & eBooks

Books & eBooks

The general pattern for reference for a book or eBook is

Author, A. A. (year of publication). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Publisher. DOI/URL

Things to Remember:

  • The titles of for books and ebooks are italicized. 
  • Most of the information can be found on the back of the title page
  • Printed books can and do have DOIs. Be sure to include them.

Note on the in-text citation: If the name appears first in the citation, spell it out and give the abbreviation. If you have already spelled out the name in your paper, you can use the second example. See below for examples.

In-text citation, first time name appears: (American Psychological Association [APA], 2010)

Then use: (APA, 2010)
